Home on The De-Ranged

First encounter with our beast. What the hell did we get into?

The starting point on our land
The starting point on our land. The electric box

We first set eyes on our land in April 2021, and it was a sight to see, or not, depending how you’d like to look at it.

It had been advertised as a 5 acre property with an uninhabitable building/shop that was once a small home.

We went to check it out ourselves.

Here on this dead end dirt road, lay a dilapidated mess of forest, over grown weeds 5 ft. high, and junk as far as the eye could see.

There was trash, furniture, electrical equipment etc. So many Kids bikes, mattresses, shoes, toys; we’re not sure if they took anything with them when they left lol.

There was literally a broken down trailer house with all the furniture and belongings still inside.

We thought hey…Some tombstones would look perfect here!

The Magic Through the Madness

Seeing this property devastated me, but Bob saw the potential. He saw all the possibilities of this enchanted place, and convinced me to give it a chance.

I finally agreed with the one condition, I was not going to help clean the land! I was absolutely not going to get out in the weeds that were as tall as me, and dig out a couch from the dirt!

People had begun to use the property as a dumping ground as well, so the amount of trash was ferocious. But all that would soon change as I began to fall in love with the land.

The Wild and Wooly Hills

The terrain on the land was even treacherous.

It hadn’t been lived on in over 15 years, and the rain and weather had definitely taken its toll. There were small streams and gullies under all the weeds and brush.

The weeds themselves were over 5 ft. tall in places.

There were massive trees down all over the property from wind and storm damage over the years. Huge 30 year old oak trees just slammed on the ground which added more holes and dugouts.

The trees that were standing were covered in miles of vines of poison everything.

Once we got to the back side of the land, we found a huge rain washout that has to be almost 15 ft. deep.

Mother Nature had also created a beautiful island behind the shop/building.

The possibilities started building and the excitement began!

Love, Friends, and Electric Lines

Our friends, Dave and Rachelle

Bob and I were very lucky that we had the two most amazing friends, Dave and Rachelle, who had already been letting us stay in their camper while we prepared our land.

They also helped us get the land livable, as they both had experience in construction, plumbing, electric etc. We couldn’t have done any of it without their help, knowledge, and guidance!

We all piled up in our vehicles, theirs strapped up with a tractor and tools, and headed down the highway.

Once we got there, Dave realized the electric lines were down and hot, which definitely wasn’t the highest on the list of “best things that could happen”.

Fortunately, they were able to get the problem resolved, and Bob and Dave hooked up the electric to the property for the first time in 15 years!!

And with that, the spirit of the land began to awake.

Boot Camp??

It was around this time I realized we were now in the country, fine time huh. lol

The only thing I knew about the country was it had cows and bugs, and I wasn’t very fond of bugs.

Cows are kinda cute though!

Cow in the road...Gotta love the country

At this time, I had lived in Oklahoma for about 7 years, and had fallen in love with the peacefulness of this beautiful nook on earth.

So buying some land in the country was always on the agenda.

However, having never actually had my own little piece of the earth, I was not prepared for what was to come of this precious gift.

Now as I said before, our friends Dave and Rachelle had been helping us get the land ready to live on.

Rachelle was already a hell of woman, but she now she was also a ninja!

All the women in my family are strong, but up until now, I had never seen a boneified country woman physically work as hard as her in my life.

I was like hell yeah!

Sign me up! Rachelle’s boot camp, here I come!

She taught me I could dig trenches, lay pluming, septic, and electrical lines!

How to cook on a grill in case the power goes out, even coffee!!

That with some hard work and effort, you can save so much money doing it yourself.

And also…

“Ain’t nobody gonna tell me I can’t get out here and work!”

She had previously worked in construction with her husband, and they had also built their huge 2 story home from the ground up!

So needless to say, she was a very powerful role model to me teaching me I could get out and work with Bob too on our land!

I will forever be grateful to her for the experience!

Hunker’n Down for Winter

We were finally able to move onto our property around the end of September that year.

We camped out a few days in the dilapidated building, we would later affectionately name “The Cottage”, until our rental property was delivered.

A truly beautiful 3 bedroom, 2 bath, brand new modular home.

We decided to hunker down for the winter for all the conveniences the brand new home had to offer.

The house itself however, is infallibly white.

White Living Room

So as creepy does, we added some shelves in the living room to display some of oddities to darken up the place and make us feel more at home. Lol

We spent the holidays there awaiting the fresh new season of change.

This is our Jack Skeleton Bob made. He stands 7ft. tall and is incredibly heavy to move as he's welded together, and finished with paper mache

We didn’t do too much work through the winter as we needed some rest and recuperating after finally making it to this point.

We had bought our acreage, prepared the land with the modern day conveniences like electrical and plumbing, and added an investment property all within 4 months.

We needed some rest! So we closed our coffins, and slept…

The next year we would awaken and begin building our dream!

So come and jump on our version of the crazy train as we create, build, and conquer.

Maybe a couple of miss-steps, but so much fun and always so much crazy!!
